D2 is a high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel valued for edge retention and wear resistance. The elevated chromium content gives it moderate corrosion resistance, though it is not stainless and benefits from a light coat of oil in storage. Each stag horn handle is shaped individually, so colour and figure vary piece to piece.
